Cataract Laser surgery is a way to remove cataracts. Light is used in place of ultrasound in the dissolution of the cataract. LASIK and LASEK process fall into the category of laser surgery.

In LASEK, or laser epithelial keratomileusis, the surface layer of the cornea is treated with alcohol and peeled back to reshape the layer below. The process avoids the complications associated with cataracts.

In LASIK, or laser in situ keratomileusis, the surface layer of the cornea is stripped out. This is done to reshape the cornea of the underlying surface. LASIK began in the mid-twenties to ten and has replaced the old process photorefractive keratectomy or PRK since then. With LASIK, a component is created on the top layer of the cornea to allow access to the surface of the cornea. LASIK prevents most problems of postoperative pain, slow rehabilitation and corneal haze that are considered in the tradition PRK.

Both LASIK and LASEK procedures are effective, predictable and safe for treatment of low to moderate myopia, or nearsightedness. Cataracts are the laser surgery is not performed at the clinic doctor because there is still a need for a surgical incision in the eye opening.

It will take some weeks to completely heal the eye that is the subject of laser surgery. It is recommended for patients who have cataracts in both eyes for the treatment of a single eye before you try the other eye.
